Cross Grain

What is Cross Grain?

Cross grain is a cut of wood that is cut down a tree vertically rather horizontally, or the end-grain. This cut is actually consider to be stronger than solid wood because the effects of moisture are minimal. Solid wood will eventually splinter and crack from expanding and contracting with moisture. Plywood is a common example of cross grain wood.
