Corbel

What is a Cope and Stick?

A corbel is a structure that juts from a wall to act as a supportive bracket. They have the structure of an upside-down right triangle, with the right angle forming between the wall and structure it is supporting.

They’ve been used since ancient times to support large ledges and roofs, but today they act as supports for cabinets and countertops or are decorative pieces. They can be incredibly ornate, but even standard ones can make a room feel more prominent.
