Color Variation

What is Color Variation?

Color variation is having multiple colors within the same piece of wood. Wood with color variation is popular because it can add depth, contrast, and “character” to a room. Knots, burls, as well as variations in texture, density, and moisture can contribute to color variation within wood. Lighter finishes can highlight these variations while darker finishes tone them down.
